They keep pulling me back in
I can’t escape it, I’m scared of the future. I tried to go about as if nothing is happening, much like everyone else but I still find it interesting to see the demise of western civilization. I happened on this article, Biofuels make greenhouse gases worse, scientists say. The article has this quote which I think sums it up.
There should be more focus on producing biofuels from municipal waste and from land that can’t be used for food crops, said Alex Ferrell, an energy and resource professor at the University of California, Berkeley. Soil and plants are essential stores of carbon, containing more than the atmosphere, he said.
We’re not going to find easy solutions but we have to see the whole picture.
Global Warming, GW, has become the new bogeyman to scare children and adults alike. I fell prey to that call. I still believe in aspects of it but not everything, let me explain.
GW is a very complex monster and I don’t pretend to known the answers but I have thoughts I’d to share. Some things may be wrong but my character is got fast and sort it out in the end.
GW, as it is known, are the gases that are emitted into the atmosphere and cause heat to be trapped because sunlight cannot escape and thus trapped bouncing off the ground once again. Futurama didn’t explain it right, the sunbeam isn’t a cute guy/gal but a mean malicious thug who we want to go, but not so fast. The suns energy is trapped but it not mankind’s fault but it is, let me explain.
Enterprise has learned the secrets of oil and coal and … We pump huge amount of CO into the air. Nature doesn’t know what to do with CO since it kills everything it touches. “My Bad” and when I say “My Bad” I really mean “Our Bad” but I thought that sounded cooler or hotter or warmer or … It’s something that started over a 100 years ago. OK, we got that out of the way, CO is malo, or dame, or any other way I don’t know but it’s BAD.
We are animals and animals have to take responsibility, we are CO2 emitters. That too is a Greenhouse Gas and when I say “Greenhouse Gas” I mean it’s a gas in the air that traps sunlight and thus heat. Where was I? O yeah, CO2, that’s a natural gas an can be used by nature. In fact it’s necessary for plants. We’ll get to that but first I’d like to explain what Mankind does bad, they make room for animals by cutting down plants and trees. Now Next.
CO2 is a natural gas but a Greenhouse Gas. Plants love the stuff, it makes me dizzy but most things do. The Plants break down the CO2 and use the Carbon, that’s the C, and emit the Oxygen. that’s the O. This is the stuff I love and you should too (if you want to live).
To break it down, the players in this tale in order badness.
Mankind - because they’re animals which are CO and CO2 emitters
Animals - because they’re CO2 emitters
Plants - the only good guys in this tale
This will be my last post on GW as I’m switching this blog to talk about other important things, namely Me and my life in Tokyo, Japan.
I know some people who don’t agree with global warming but I think the evidence is getting too strong for any reasonable human being to disagree with it any longer but I never under estimate the blinder people put on their thinking.
In January, NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center reported that 2006 was the warmest year on record over the 48 contiguous states with an average temperature 2.1 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than normal and 0.07 degree warmer than 1998, the previous warmest year on record….At the time the agency said it was not clear how much of the warming was a result of greenhouse-gas induced climate change and how much resulted from the El Nino warming of the tropical Pacific Ocean that was under way.”We wanted to find out whether it was pure coincidence that the two warmest years on record both coincided with El Nino events,” Martin Hoerling of NOAA’s Earth System Research Laboratory in Boulder, Colo., said in a statement.
Wow! If your not a scientist then that’s all you can say when you read this, I”m sure there wil be a lot of fighting in the U.S. before there’s any available there. You haven’t read the article so I’ll give you a summary before you read the link (like always)
Instead of mixing the ingredients and heating them for hours, the chemical engineers pass sunflower oil and methanol through a bed of pellets made from fungal spores….Last Monday, Ravichandra Potumarthi showed off his work during a poster session at the International Conference on Bioengineering and Nanotechnology. After returning to his lab in Hyderabad, he was able to send out some pictures of his experimental reactor (shown on right) and the fungal pellets.Typically, biodiesel is made by mixing methanol with lye and vegetable oil and then heating the brew for several hours….Considering that a handful of chemical engineers can accomplish so much on what appears to be a shoestring budget, the future of alternative fuels looks pretty good — but maybe a bit slimy.
I had a thought (it happens sometimes), we need to pressure our local governments to not only clean up but to plant some trees. It makes things beautiful, cleans up the air, and gives the environment some stability. Australia and the US have huge tracts of land doing nothing.
Currently we plant trees in Victoria, ACT, Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia and Western Australia (we are currently seeking sites in Tasmania for 2007-08)….Since 2001, GM Holden has been the national sponsor of Murray Darling Rescue, providing financial assistance, as well as the use of a Rodeo 4WD to assist at plantings and to help provide ongoing maintenance of the trees….In Dec 2003, the ACT Government (Office of Sustainability) signed the Territory Government fleet, offsetting the greenhouse emissions from their 1,114 vehicles….The Murray Darling Rescue project in South Australia (with Scouts SA) has planted over 111,000 trees in the state so far on behalf of South Australian motorists and fleets….We have planted some 579,000 trees in the state so far on behalf of motorists and fleets in New South Wales.
We’re making a difference to the environment, we got aways to go but things are looking better. Remember, the next time you should meet a ferret be cordial, give them the same respect when we don’t fuck with them, wemay end needing some help later.
Donald, of Britain’s Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, report that European Union policies designed to protect vulnerable species and their habitat seem to be working. In 15 European countries studied, there was a significant increase in population trends for protected birds between 1990 and 2000, compared to 1970-1990, the team found….At first they continued to suffer losses and extinction seemed likely when they were down to five animals, but by 2003 the wild population had grown to 52 ferrets and researchers estimate the current wild total at more than 200….Oliveira of the Carnegie Institution report that while deforestation is continuing, it is occurring mostly in designated logging areas and not in protected regions set aside by the government.
This is another page I’ve written,I have lots of free time when I’m not excersising my as* off.
I’m presently in a wheelchair and I’ve found out that it should’ve never been. I want to share a few tips with you so that you can avoid my predicament. It’s never too late to get back on my feet and these are a few things I’m doing besides lot of physical therapy.
This is completely off topic for this blog but if you care about the USA read the word of a potential next leader. Here is a summary, the speech is long.
But they can provoke the reaction we’ve seen in Iraq: a misguided invasion of a Muslim country that sparks new insurgencies, ties down our military, busts our budgets, increases the pool of terrorist recruits, alienates America, gives democracy a bad name, and prompts the American people to question our engagement in the world.
…When I am President, we will wage the war that has to be won, with a comprehensive strategy with five elements: getting out of Iraq and on to the right battlefield in Afghanistan and Pakistan; developing the capabilities and partnerships we need to take out the terrorists and the world’s most deadly weapons; engaging the world to dry up support for terror and extremism; restoring our values; and securing a more resilient homeland.
…This program will provide $5 billion over three years for counter-terrorism cooperation with countries around the world, including information sharing, funding for training, operations, border security, anti-corruption programs, technology, and targeting terrorist financing.
Space travel doesn’t spring to mind when thinking of climate change that we see everyday but there’s alot of CO being pumped into the air for each launch. I do agree we must get into space cheaply and safely to put those things we need up there like a solar power plant (just an idea I’ve had). In the article it talks about remotely powering the elevator, if we can do that why not some solar panels to give us some clean power.
Now, another round of 20 teams will try to win $500,000 from the space agency for building a robotic climber that can hoist itself up on a thin carbon tether, under its own power source, 100 meters within 50 seconds.
…The Spaceward Foundation, the nonprofit group that organizes the space elevator competition, said Tuesday that its third annual contest will be held October 19 to 21 in Salt Lake City.
…To compete in the space elevator competition, teams must race a climber that’s powered by beams of energy from the ground, rather than fuel or batteries.
…The Spaceward Foundation also said that this year it will host a Light Racers Championship, which calls on kids and young adults to design and build a beam-powered lunar rover.
…”Reaching out to the scientists and engineers of the future is the most important thing we can do,” Meekk Shelef, president of the Spaceward Foundation, said in a statement.
